Intensive In-Home

True Counseling provides transformational in-home counseling services that disrupt the money-focused industry and puts the focus back on the people we serve. We're committed to keeping children healthy, whole, and with their families. True Counseling services is run by bilingual (English and Spanish) mental health professionals. The QMHP’s at True Counseling care about the quality of care they provide. We are a motivated, passionate staff who run an evidence-based practice, meaning the diagnoses and treatment aren't estimated or guesstimated, but they're proved by data and research.

All staff at True Counseling are educated and understand childhood diagnosis in order to not only treat them, but to break the stigma around them, as well. We assist children ages 5-18 who are at risk of out of home placement due to behavioral or mental health issues. We are licensed to render our services to region four in Central Virginia which includes Henrico, Richmond, Chesterfield, Petersburg, Prince George, Hopewell, Dinwiddie, Emporia, Hanover, and Goochland-Powhatan.  

Individuals between the ages of 5-18 must demonstrate a clinical necessity arising from a condition due to mental, behavioral, or emotional illness that results in significant functional impairments in major life activities. Individuals must meet at least two of the following criteria on a continuing or intermittent basis:

a.       Be at risk of out-of-home placement;

b.       Have difficulty in establishing or maintaining normal interpersonal relationships to such a degree that they are at risk of hospitalization or out-of-home placement because of conflicts with family or community;

c.       Exhibit such inappropriate behavior that repeated interventions by the mental health, social services, or judicial systems are necessary; and/or

d.       Exhibit difficulty in cognitive/behavioral ability such that they are unable to recognize personal danger or recognize significantly inappropriate social behaviors.

Mental Health Skill Building

As of 8/1/22, True Counseling services is licensed to provide Mental health skill-building services (MHSS). Our goal is to train and enable individuals to achieve and maintain community stability and independence in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment.

Individuals qualifying for this service shall demonstrate a clinical necessity for the service arising from a condition due to mental, behavioral, or emotional illness that results in significant functional impairments in major life activities. Services are provided to individuals who require individualized goal-directed training in order to achieve or maintain stability and independence in the community.

Crisis Stabilization

True Counseling Services provides quality CS services. Crisis stabilization services for non-hospitalized individuals at True Counseling services looks like our qualified staff providing direct mental health care to individuals experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis which may jeopardize their current community living situation. Individuals must meet at least two of the following criteria at the time of admission to the service:

(1) Experience difficulty in establishing and maintaining normal interpersonal relationships to such a degree that the individual is at risk of psychiatric hospitalization, homelessness, or isolation from social supports;

(2) Experience difficulty in activities of daily living such as maintaining personal hygiene, preparing food and maintaining adequate nutrition, or managing finances to such a degree that health or safety is jeopardized;

(3) Exhibit such inappropriate behavior that immediate interventions documented by the mental health, social services, or judicial system are or have been necessary; or

(4) Exhibit difficulty in cognitive ability such that the individual is unable to recognize personal danger or significantly inappropriate social behavior.

Outpatient

True Counseling Services offers outpatient therapy for any individual who is interested in treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues that don't quite need intense treatment, or just overall life maintenance.

Outpatient therapy services are comprehensive, evidence-based, recovery-oriented treatment services that address a wide variety of presenting needs. This service is commonly delivered in 50 minute weekly, biweekly or monthly sessions.
